Chapter 1 – Bored, Bored, Bored
Be Proactive

Summary

To begin our time together we follow Sammy Squirrel through 7 Oaks as he looks for something fun to do. Although his friends offer many options for Sammy, he refuses all of them complaining that it doesn’t sound like fun and goes on to complain to his friends that he is “Bored! Bored! Bored!.” In the end Tagalong Allie’s Granny helps Sammy to learn that we all need to know how to make our own fun. Sammy finds and old radio in a trash can to fix for a sick friend and is no longer bored.

What are some activities that you can do next time that you feel bored?

7 Habits of Happy Kids

For the next few months Dundee is fortunate to have with us Danielle Buchanan. She is a junior at George Fox University and majoring in social work. She is doing a 10 hour practicum this semester. One of the tasks she is tackling is Going through the Sean Covey book 7 Habits of Happy Kids. So, for the next few weeks we will be posting a summary of what she is talking with the students about and providing questions and links to activities that parents and children can do together to strengthen the ideas presented in the book. Have fun!

Something New

This blog is something new for me. As a counselor I try to be that "life long learner" that is talked about in the field of education. So, this is another opportunity to learn. Entering into the blogging world will be my attempt to keep parents current with what is happening around Dundee Elementary School from the view of the counselor. If it is a little rough, know that this is a work in progress. I am looking forward to this in hopes that it will be beneficial, or at least somewhat interesting, to those willing to take the time to read.
